Introduction | Multi-Platform Probe for PRTG

PRTG Manual: Introduction

The multi-platform probe is a remote probe that extends the native monitoring capabilities of PRTG to non-Windows platforms, for example Linux, Raspberry Pi, or NAS systems.

With the multi-platform probe, you can monitor different non-Windows subnetworks that are separated from your PRTG core server by a firewall, as well as keep an eye on remote locations.

The multi-platform probe is compatible with PRTG Network Monitor, PRTG Enterprise Monitor, and PRTG Hosted Monitor, from now on referred to as PRTG.

i_square_cyanFor more information about whether your system is compatible with the multi-platform probe, see section System requirements.

i_square_cyanFor more information on how to set up a multi-platform probe with PRTG Hosted Monitor, see the Knowledge Base: How do I set up a multi-platform probe with my PRTG Hosted Monitor instance?

The multi-platform probe and PRTG

When you enable multi-platform probe connections with PRTG, PRTG automatically creates the Multi-Platform Probe Health Connection (Autonomous) sensor on the PRTG core server. This sensor monitors the state of the connection between the PRTG core server and multi-platform probes.

When you install a multi-platform probe, PRTG automatically creates two sensors on the remote probe itself:

1.Multi-Platform Probe Health sensor: Monitors the status of the multi-platform probe device

2.System Health v2 sensor: Monitors the status of the system that the multi-platform probe is installed on

You can then add any supported sensors to your multi-platform probe.

i_round_blueYou might experience a delay of up to five minutes until the first data point appears for any sensors that you add to a multi-platform probe.
