PRTG Manual: Download and installation
Download and install the appropriate multi-platform probe package for the system that you want to monitor:
▪For Debian, Ubuntu, and RHEL systems: use the Paessler Linux package repository
▪For Docker: pull the Docker image.
The CA certificate must also be present on the multi-platform probe system
Paessler Linux package repository
To install the multi-platform probe on a Linux system, we recommend that you use the Paessler Linux package repository. If you use this repository to download and install your packages, you receive notifications when there are updates to the multi-platform probe and can immediately download and update your multi-platform probes.
You can find the Paessler Linux package repository at https://packages.paessler.com.
We recommend that you use bash to run the commands during setup.
1.Download and install the repository signing key:
curl --fail --silent https://packages.paessler.com/keys/paessler.asc \
| sudo tee /usr/share/keyrings/paessler-archive-keyring.asc
If you want to download the key manually, see the Paessler Linux package repository: /keys/.
2.Download the repository configuration file:
curl --fail --silent https://packages.paessler.com/docs/apt-sources/$(source \
/etc/os-release && echo $VERSION_CODENAME).sources \
| sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/paessler.sources
If you want to download the configuration file manually, see the Paessler Linux package repository: /docs/apt-sources/.
If you are unsure which configuration file to download, use the less /etc/os-release command and check the value in VERSION_CODENAME.
1.Update your package index:
sudo apt-get update
2.Install the multi-platform probe:
sudo apt-get install prtgmpprobe
3.Confirm that the certificate authority (CA) certificate is available on the remote probe system. This can be in the Linux trust store or in /etc/paessler/mpprobe/certs. If the CA certificate is not available in either of these folders, copy the CA certificate into the directory before you configure your probe.
1.Download and install the repository configuration file:
sudo dnf config-manager --add-repo https://packages.paessler.com/docs/rpm-sources/rhel-9.repo
2.Install the multi-platform probe:
sudo dnf install prtgmpprobe
3.Confirm that the certificate authority (CA) certificate is available on the remote probe system. This can be in the Linux trust store or in /etc/paessler/mpprobe/certs. If the CA certificate is not available in either of these folders, copy the CA certificate into the directory before you configure your probe.
Paessler maintains a Docker image that you can use to install and run multi-platform probes. You can pull the multi-platform probe Docker image from two locations:
▪GitHub: Containerized Multi-Platform Probe for PRTG
▪Docker Hub: paessler/multi-platform-probe
We recommend that you use GitHub to see the most up-to-date information.
