Docker container | Multi-Platform Probe for PRTG

PRTG Manual: Docker container

Once you create a configuration file, use the Docker image to create a multi-platform probe.

1.Create a new container with the multi-platform probe image:

docker run -it \
 --network bridge \
 -v ./scripts:/opt/paessler/share/scripts:ro \
 -v ./config:/config \
 --cap-add NET_ADMIN \
 --cap-add NET_RAW \
 paessler/multi-platform-probe:latest

Parameter

Description

docker run -it

Starts a container and makes it interactive.

--network bridge

Specifies that the container uses the default bridge network.

i_round_redThis parameter is necessary for the multi-platform probe to monitor properly.

-v

Mounts a volume on the Docker container that allows the container to access and store data on the host machine based on the provided path. The volume follows the format /path/on/host/system:/path/on/docker. In this command, you mount the following volumes:

▪./scripts:/opt/paessler/share/scripts:ro: Mounts a volume to access any custom scripts you want to use with the multi-platform probe, such as with the Script v2 sensor.
i_round_blueThe :ro at the end stands for read-only.

i_round_blueIf you do not have any custom scripts, you can remove this parameter.

▪./config:/config: Mounts a volume of the /config directory. This applies the configuration file that you created to the multi-platform probe container.
i_round_redThis parameter is necessary for the multi-platform probe to monitor properly.

--cap-add NET_ADMIN

--cap-add NET_RAW

Adds the NET_ADMIN and NET_RAW capabilities to the container.

i_round_redThese parameters are necessary for the multi-platform probe to monitor properly.

paessler/multi-platform-probe:latest

Points to the image that the container starts from and the version of the image it pulls.

i_round_blueIf you create a multi-platform probe without specifying a name, the multi-platform probe appears on PRTG with a name that follows the format multi-platform-probe@<container ID>. If you want to define the name of a multi-platform probe, use the --env PRTGMPPROBE__NAME parameter:

docker run -it \
 --env PRTGMPPROBE__NAME="Example Remote Probe"
 --network bridge \
 -v ./scripts:/opt/paessler/share/scripts:ro \
 -v ./config:/config \
 --cap-add NET_ADMIN \
 --cap-add NET_RAW \
 paessler/multi-platform-probe:latest

2.Verify that the Docker container is running:

docker ps -a

Go to Configure PRTG connection.
