Configure NATS server connection | Multi-Platform Probe for PRTG

PRTG Manual: Configure NATS server connection

To start, we recommend that you add the certificate that PRTG uses to authenticate the connection between the NATS server and the PRTG core server system to the PRTG Administration Tool. You can use an existing certificate authority (CA) certificate or PRTG can create a self-signed Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificate specific for your system.

i_round_redThe PRTG core server will restart after you complete this step. During the restart, all users of the PRTG web interface, PRTG MultiBoard, or the PRTG Apps for Mobile Network Monitoring are disconnected and reconnected.

i_round_blueYou only have to configure the PRTG Administration Tool once unless you need to change your certificate.

Requirements

▪This step requires that you enter the fully qualified domain address name (FQDN) of the PRTG core server system. This is the DNS name that the multi-platform probe system uses to reach the PRTG core server system.

▪If you use an existing CA certificate, the certificate must be present in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities folder in the Local Computer Windows certificate store.

Use an existing CA certificate

1.Go to the PRTG Administration Tool on the system that runs your PRTG core server.

2.Click on the NATS Server tab.

3.Enter the FQDN of the PRTG core server system.

4.Enter the certificate thumbprint of the server certificate that you want to use with the NATS server.

5.Click Save & Close to apply your changes.

Generate a new certificate

1.Go to the PRTG Administration Tool on the system that runs your PRTG core server.

2.Click on the NATS Server tab.

3.Enter the FQDN of the PRTG core server system.

4.Click Generate TLS certificates. PRTG creates a CA certificate and a server certificate for this domain and saves it to the Windows certificate store.

5.Click Copy CA certificate to clipboard and save it in the system-wide trust store on the system that you want to install a multi-platform probe on.
i_round_blueWe recommend that you save the CA certificate in the system-wide trust store on your remote probe system. Otherwise, you can save the file in a temporary folder. Save the file with the name cert.pem . After you install the multi-platform probe, you can move the file to /etc/paessler/mpprobe/certs.

6.Click Save & Close to apply your changes.
