NATS server

The NATS server handles the exchange of data between multi-platform probes and a PRTG core server.

PRTG offers an integrated NATS server with as of PRTG 26.1.117. Alternatively, you can use a remote NATS server.

▪Integrated NATS server: PRTG hosts a NATS server on the same system as the PRTG core server. Automatically installed with PRTG.

▪Remote NATS server: Available for setups that require the NATS server to be on a different system than the PRTG core server. Requires manual installation on a remote system.

i_round_blueYou cannot monitor multi-platform probes with both the integrated NATS server and a remote NATS server. Select the NATS server that you want to use with multi-platform probes in the PRTG web interface.

PRTG core server

The PRTG core server receives monitoring data from a multi-platform probe via the NATS server and displays the data using sensors.

Multi-platform probe

The multi-platform probe is a small piece of software that is installed on a non-Windows system in your local or remote network. It scans the network and sends monitoring results to a PRTG core server via a NATS server.
