Custom alerts and data visualization let you quickly identify and prevent all kinds of network issues.
Most cybersecurity professionals and sysadmins agree: having a robust intrusion detection system is a critical part of enterprise infrastructure health. But prevention is even more important. And, to stop malware and other cyber threats from infiltrating your network, file integrity monitoring and vulnerability tracking aren’t enough. There’s also a direct correlation between network health and performance and how easy bad actors will find it to worm their way in.
Put simply, a well-maintained, properly patched network with optimized resource allocation is better placed to fight off attempted security breaches. Paessler PRTG can keep a close eye on both your network’s security posture, and all the other variables that could impact how it responds to threats — from log data monitoring and PCI DSS compliance to CPU load, RAM, and beyond.
And it allows you to do it from a single module instead of having to switch between different solutions. Because, while powerful capabilities are good, they’ll only get you so far unless they’re also easy and intuitive to use.
Keep an eye on every variable that could possibly impact your network, from one place. Not just security operations and event management, but also speed, performance, and even if third-party vendors are hitting their SLAs.
Whether you have a small local network or large distributed infrastructure, you can rely on PRTG to be flexible, adaptable, and always user-friendly.

From the simplest to the most complex setups, PRTG handles your network monitoring needs from start to finish, so you don't have to. Keeping a close eye on every variable round the clock, and alerting you when there are issues. Giving you the peace of mind that your network's health and performance are being taken care of even when you're not looking.
Less fiddling, more monitoring. PRTG’s discovery automation tool detects every hardware, software, and virtualized component on your network, assigns the right sensors, and starts gathering data, without you lifting a finger. It doesn’t get any quicker or simpler than this.
PRTG can monitor different security features of your infrastructure. But at its heart it's so much more. It monitors every aspect of your network: JSON files, GitHub files, syslogs, operating systems – yes, including Linux – AWS and Azure, and even temperature and humidity. Plus, it supports most major vendors, including Cisco, Dell, and IBM.
Once you’re up and running, PRTG takes care of itself. Our preconfigured or custom sensors continuously track metrics and alert you if they’re at risk of going above or below your preferred thresholds, so you can co-ordinate an active response before there’s unplanned disruption.
While you can use PRTG in an agent-based setup, it doesn’t require you to install and configure agents out of the box, so it’s gentle on your resources. PRTG has compatibility with all major monitoring protocols, including SNMP, HTTPS, Flow technologies, and WMI.

We also compared PRTG with other monitoring tools:
MRTG delivers simple traffic graphs but struggles with complex configurations and limited insight. PRTG transforms monitoring with effortless setup, real-time alerts, and complete IT visibility.
Better Stack focuses on uptime monitoring, incident response, and log management for web applications and cloud services. For comprehensive device-level infrastructure monitoring, PRTG is the better choice.
AppDynamics requires complex setup and module-based pricing. PRTG delivers comprehensive monitoring with intuitive interfaces and transparent pricing.
The basic version of the open-source tool Nagios is free of charge. But most users spent many hours to set up and customize the tool. In case of problems, browsing through forums is often the only solution.
Real-time notifications mean faster troubleshooting so that you can act before more serious issues occur.

Choosing between Paessler PRTG and Wazuh depends on several factors, such as your specific network monitoring needs, budget, and technical resources available in your organization.
PRTG is ideal:
Wazuh might be your choice:
The short answer: scope.
Wazuh is a security-focused monitoring platform. It specializes in SIEM, XDR, log analysis, threat detection, and incident response, so it's ideal if you're looking for robust endpoint and cloud workload protection. The trade-off is that it can be somewhat fiddly to set up, and has limited health and performance-monitoring functionality.
By contrast, PRTG, is an all-in-one network monitoring solution. This means that, alongside endpoint security and threat detection, it can also keep a close eye on other hardware, software, and virtualized component metrics, and even environmental stats like temperature and humidity, giving you a complete picture of your network's health and performance in one place.
PRTG and Wazuh are both highly customizable. But while, in Wazuh, customization is limited to its primary use cases — endpoint and cloud security — PRTG's customization options cover performance monitoring. The list below covers the key customization options in PRTG and Wazuh.

Don't be fooled by PRTG's significantly broader breadth of functionality and configurability. Setting it up is quick and easy. Download PRTG onto a Windows server (or use our cloud-hosted solution) and key in an IP address range. PRTG automatically detects every hardware and software network component in the provided IP range and assigns the appropriate sensors. You can then leave it as is, or tweak your monitoring environment, performance thresholds, and other parameters to suit using intuitive, drag-and-drop menus.
Wazuh, by contrast, has a much more involved setup process. You'll need to deploy agents on every endpoint you want to monitor, configure security policies, and fine-tune rules, plus monitor setting on an ongoing basis.
In PRTG, “sensors” are the basic monitoring elements. One sensor usually monitors one measured value in your network, for example the traffic of a switch port, the CPU load of a server, or the free space on a disk drive. On average, you need about 5-10 sensors per device or one sensor per switch port.
Paessler conducted trials in over 600 IT departments worldwide to tune its network monitoring software closer to the needs of sysadmins. The result of the survey: over 95% of the participants would recommend PRTG – or already have.
