Custom alerts and data visualization let you quickly identify and prevent moisture-related issues.
It might be no great news for you that even your hardware requires special protection. This does not only mean measures against unauthorized access to your server room. With its tendency to steam up hardware, corrode expensive equipment, and cause electrical malfunctions, humidity can be a nightmare for any sysadmin. Protect your hardware against environmental factors such as temperature and humidity with Paessler PRTG.
Diagnose network issues by continuously tracking the humidity levels in your server room or directly in your server rack. Show moisture levels and other key metrics in real time. Visualize monitoring data in graphic maps and dashboards to identify problems more easily. Gain the overview you need to troubleshoot issues with the humidity in your data center or server room (or even greenhouse).

In an IT context, humidity refers to the amount of moisture present in the air within data centers, server rooms, or other environments housing IT equipment.
If the air is too dry (low indoor humidity), it can lead to the buildup of static electricity, which can cause electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD can damage sensitive electronic components in servers and other IT equipment. Excessive moisture in the air can lead to condensation, which can cause short circuits and corrosion of metal components, ultimately damaging the equipment.
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) recommends that data centers maintain relative humidity levels between 40% and 60%. This range helps mitigate the risks associated with both low and high humidity.
Humidity monitoring is essential to ensure that the humidity levels remain within an optimal range to protect sensitive electronic components from damage. This can mean:
Sure. Paessler PRTG is not only an humidity monitoring system, but an all-in-one network monitoring tool that can also monitor many different environmental factors such as ambient temperature, indoor temperature, outdoor temperature, water leaks, fire, air quality, or brightness. Other related aspects include monitoring battery life, power supplies, voltage, and more.
In PRTG, “sensors” are the basic monitoring elements. One sensor usually monitors one measured value in your network, for example the traffic of a switch port, the CPU load of a server, or the free space on a disk drive. On average, you need about 5-10 sensors per device or one sensor per switch port.
Paessler conducted trials in over 600 IT departments worldwide to tune its network monitoring software closer to the needs of sysadmins. The result of the survey: over 95% of the participants would recommend PRTG – or already have.
Paessler PRTG is used by companies of all sizes. Sysadmins love PRTG because it makes their job a whole lot easier.
