PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Give your servers the attention they deserve

Your servers are the lifeblood of your business. From hosting websites to running critical applications, you can't afford downtime. With Paessler PRTG's server health monitoring software, you can rest easy knowing your servers are healthy and ready for action.

Know your server status at all times

Forget mystery server issues and poor uptime. PRTG gives you live, round-the-clock visibility into all the essential health and performance metrics. View CPU utilization, disk health, fan speeds, and network connectivity in one dashboard.

Whether you manage one Windows server or a fleet of mixed web servers, virtual servers, SQL servers, or file servers, PRTG has you covered.

Fix issues before users even notice

Why wait for a bad user experience? PRTG puts you ahead of the curve with insights that lead to fast response times. PRTG proactively identifies potential issues like failed power supplies, latency issues, bandwidth bottlenecks, poor application performance, or low storage capacity.

Custom thresholds trigger alerts when something goes out of range, so you can prevent minor hiccups from becoming major problems.

Track the health of every server, anywhere

A company’s IT infrastructure can range from a single server to multiple server rooms, making network monitoring more challenging. No matter how distributed your server environment is, PRTG scales with you.

Local server or remote, physical server or virtual, PRTG can track them all. From the server room down the hall to the cloud-based servers across the globe, you’ll have full network performance data at your fingertips.

See the whole server health picture

Server management isn’t guesswork, and PRTG doesn’t just tell you a server is “broken.” It tells you why. Is it the CPU, RAM, disk, power supply, or network connection? Detailed server health checks tell you exactly where the root cause is, so you can start troubleshooting.

Rising CPU temperatures, power supply failures, memory usage issues – you’ll know before they bring your servers to a screeching halt.

Maintain a cool and calm server room

Environmental factors matter. Overheating server racks can lead to system failure. PRTG’s server health monitoring capabilities include tracking the temperature, humidity, and airflow in server rooms.

If conditions shift beyond safe limits for optimal performance, you’ll be the first to know – giving you a chance to take action before your servers call it quits.

What server health monitoring looks like in PRTG

Diagnose network issues by continuously tracking the status of your server hardware. Show CPU usage, fan speed, power supply status, resource utilization, disk usage and space, and other key metrics in real time. Visualize monitoring data in clear graphs and dashboards to identify problems more easily. Gain the overview you need to troubleshoot malfunctioning servers, low memory, and other server issues.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

“From a server perspective, we're monitoring all of the key components of our service such as CPU usage, RAM disk space, the Windows services that it's running, and network connectivity of that server. In terms of networks, we’re monitoring all of our switches, firewalls, and access points. It’s really useful to be able to easily pull performance metrics from the PRTG dashboard.”

Ollie Kerslake, Infrastructure Lead
Riverford Organic Farmers

“The tool has given us greater control over all types of devices connected to the network (switches, IP telephony, security cameras, IoT, WiFi) that previously remained opaque when dealing with service incidents. This has improved our ability to diagnose and resolve problems, which has translated into greater efficiency and a better user experience in both internal and public services.”

Jordi Tolosà Bel, New Technologies Technician
Vinaroz City Council

“Our objective was to be able to monitor the health of our most critical servers containing data and applications, but also the flows and bandwidth between headquarters, our 50 servers in the cloud and the 15 servers at our production sites. For us, it is essential to have a proactive approach to understand where the weaknesses of the IT system are to be able to improve them.”

Server Health Monitoring: FAQ

What is server health monitoring?

Server health monitoring is performance monitoring for the brains of your network, providing a comprehensive overview of the status and performance of individual servers. It also includes the monitoring of hardware parameters, external conditions in the server room, and various performance data of the servers and server racks. With a server health check, you can prevent downtime by keeping an eye on server elements such as CPU load and memory use, fans, power supplies and consumption, the temperature of various components, and many other important gauges.

Why do I need server health monitoring?

Most companies rely heavily on a stable IT infrastructure. As a result, downtime can lead to many serious problems. When your servers go down, your business stops. Depending on its duration, downtime can also cause significant losses in sales. This is especially true if sales and acquisitions take place via the company website. Customer satisfaction can also suffer if desired services are unavailable due to server problems.

Server health monitoring keeps you ahead of outages by identifying potential failures before they escalate. This prevents downtime, improves server performance, and keeps users happy.

How does PRTG monitor server health?

PRTG provides server status and performance monitoring by taking into account all the components that contribute to a healthy server infrastructure. In addition to individual services and applications, PRTG also keeps an eye on hardware components. To do so, it deploys preconfigured system health sensors that are suitable for a variety of different manufacturers.

These sensors use mostly SNMP to query relevant data for systems such as NetApp, Buffalo, Cisco, Dell, HP, IBM, Juniper, LenovoEMC, QNAP, SonicWall, and Synology. PRTG also recognizes virtual VMware, Citrix, and Hyper-V servers, and incorporates them into its monitoring.

Can PRTG monitor servers at multiple locations?

Yes. With remote probes, PRTG can monitor servers at multiple sites from a central dashboard. Track local, cloud, and hybrid servers in one place. As your infrastructure grows, so does PRTG. It scales effortlessly to monitor more servers by simply adding more sensors. No forklift upgrades required.

How fast can I deploy PRTG?

Fast. Really fast. Download it, run the setup, and let the auto-discovery tool find your devices. The auto-discovery feature of PRTG captures your entire server infrastructure within seconds, and automatically detects any network devices that can be reached by ping. You’ll be monitoring servers in less time than it takes to order a pizza.

What is a sensor in PRTG?

In PRTG, “sensors” are the basic monitoring elements. One sensor usually monitors one measured value in your network, for example the traffic of a switch port, the CPU load of a server, or the free space on a disk drive. On average, you need about 5-10 sensors per device or one sensor per switch port.

We asked: would you recommend PRTG? Over 95% of our customers say yes!

Paessler conducted trials in over 600 IT departments worldwide to tune its network monitoring software closer to the needs of sysadmins. The result of the survey: over 95% of the participants would recommend PRTG – or already have.
