Cost-effective. Simple to set up. And, most importantly, extremely powerful. PRTG keeps a close eye on your entire network round the clock, and takes the pain out of troubleshooting, optimization, and capacity planning.
Get up and running in minutes with minimal manual intervention. PRTG automatically detects every hardware and software component that’s connected to your network and assigns the appropriate sensors. Once that’s done, you can tweak performance metrics and other elements to suit, or leave it as is.
Continuously track your entire IT infrastructure: servers, routers, switches, firewalls, applications, virtualized environments… even temperature and humidity. PRTG brings all your critical data together in one place, giving you unparalleled visibility into your network's health and performance.
PRTG can run on-premise, in the cloud, or in a hybrid environment. You'll also get access to an extensive template library, customizable dashboards, and adjustable performance thresholds, giving you complete control over what you monitor, and how you view your data.
With PRTG, what you pay is based on the number of sensors you need. This sensor-based, all-inclusive subscription model gives you the flexibility to tailor your monitoring environment to your exact requirements, without having to compromise on functionality or user numbers.

PRTG is set up in a matter of minutes and can be used on a wide variety of mobile devices.
We also compared PRTG with other monitoring tools:
SolarWinds might be interesting for extremely complex network environments. But it also means you need to invest in higher costs for a platform made up of different modules and add-ons (that cost extra).
PRTG and ManageEngine might seem similar at first. However, with ManageEngine, you have to choose between individual functions and purchase several modules to access the full range of features.
LogicMonitor might be your choice if your organization is cloud-first and relies heavily on cloud services. However, LogicMonitor’s out-of-the-box monitoring functionality is much more limited.
The basic version of the open-source tool Nagios is free of charge. But most users spent many hours to set up and customize the tool. In case of problems, browsing through forums is often the only solution.
Real-time notifications mean faster troubleshooting so that you can act before more serious issues occur.

Choosing between Paessler PRTG and New Relic depends on several factors, such as your specific network monitoring needs, budget, and technical resources available in your organization.
PRTG is ideal:
New Relic might be your choice:
Yes, but not in as much granular detail as New Relic. If you need code-level insights or across microservices ecosystems, New Relic might be a better choice.
That said, PRTG has 250+ preconfigured sensors, including sensors for monitoring key application performance metrics like availability, response times, memory usage, and CPU load. You can also create custom sensors to monitor specific application metrics.
While you can't automate the migration process, PRTG is quick and easy to set up. Key in an IP address range, and PRTG will automatically detect every hardware or software component within that range and assign the appropriate sensors. You can then customize and configure your monitoring environment as you please, including replicating any custom plugins or scripts you use in New Relic.

New Relic's pricing model is based on data ingestion and user licenses. In other words, you pay for how much data you send to the platform for monitoring and how many people need access. The more data you send to the platform, and the more users with high-level access you need, the higher the cost. Which means New Relic can become eye-wateringly expensive if you have a large, complex network, and the cost can be hard to predict.
By contrast, the pricing PRTG offers is sensor-based. This means you only pay for the metrics you want to monitor, and the fee includes everything: all the features you require (based on the subscription plan), unlimited monitoring data, and unlimited access for your users. So, our fee is predictable and, if you have extensive monitoring requirements — a complex distributed network, for instance — much more budget-friendly.
In PRTG, “sensors” are the basic monitoring elements. One sensor usually monitors one measured value in your network, for example the traffic of a switch port, the CPU load of a server, or the free space on a disk drive. On average, you need about 5-10 sensors per device or one sensor per switch port.
Paessler conducted trials in over 600 IT departments worldwide to tune its network monitoring software closer to the needs of sysadmins. The result of the survey: over 95% of the participants would recommend PRTG – or already have.
