Custom alerts and data visualization let you quickly identify and prevent all kinds of network issues.
Free network monitoring software has the most attractive price tag of all: none.
But, when you factor in the time you’ll spend setting it up, tweaking it so it meets your organization’s needs and continues performing optimally, and, most significantly, the responsibility you shoulder if things go wrong when there’s no expert support to turn to, the disadvantages may far outweigh the savings.
Paessler PRTG is designed to take that weight off your shoulders.
Intuitive workflows and automations simplify and speed up setup, performance monitoring, alerting, and optimization, helping you maximize uptime without the need for constant intervention.
More to the point, our friendly experts are always on hand to help should things go wrong. Because, no matter how experienced and knowledgeable you are, an extra brain or two is always handy when the stakes are as high as they are when you’re dealing with enterprise network infrastructure.

Turnkey doesn’t mean you have to compromise on customization.
PRTG gives you the best of both worlds: plug-and-play, out-of-the-box functionality, and the flexibility to tailor workflows, automations, and other monitoring system functionality to give you unparalleled observability with device-level granularity, and meet your organization’s current — and future — requirements.
Need to start monitoring your IT infrastructure, yesterday? PRTG has you covered. User-friendly, point-and-click workflows make setup quick and painless. Auto-discovery is designed to get your monitoring environment up and running for you. You can then leave it as is or tweak everything to suit: templates, thresholds, graphs and even custom sensors.
You shouldn’t have to spend weeks studying documentation and trawling through forums to get to grips with a network monitoring tool’s basics. PRTG’s web interface and mobile apps feel instantly familiar, so that even a junior member of your IT team could find their way around it without breaking a sweat.
Scale vertically or horizontally without complexity (or spiraling costs). PRTG’s transparent pricing model charges you for the metrics you want to monitor, with all features included. There are no extra paid add-ons, plugins, or modules, or other hidden costs. Start for free and add more sensors as you grow, without any nasty surprises at the end of the billing cycle.
Stuck? PRTG has comprehensive documentation, an extensive knowledgebase, and a thriving community. But you’ll also have access to our friendly, expert support whenever you need it. Yes, even on the free plan. Because sometimes, the only way to sort an issue is to speak directly to another human.

PRTG is set up in a matter of minutes and can be used on a wide variety of mobile devices.
We also compared PRTG with other monitoring tools:
The basic version of the open-source tool Nagios is free of charge. But most users spent many hours to set up and customize the tool. In case of problems, browsing through forums is often the only solution.
Coralogix provides observability but lacks device-level monitoring. PRTG's agentless model with native SNMP, WMI, and Flow support delivers superior infrastructure monitoring.
Better Stack focuses on uptime monitoring, incident response, and log management for web applications and cloud services. For comprehensive device-level infrastructure monitoring, PRTG is the better choice.
Zabbix is open-source software with a strong community support. But it requires lots of manual configuration work to install and set it up. You also need to install agents on the monitored systems.
Real-time notifications mean faster troubleshooting so that you can act before more serious issues occur.
Partnering with innovative IT vendors, Paessler unleashes synergies to create
new and additional benefits for joined customers.
With the combination of PRTG and Insys, the monitoring specialist Paessler and the industrial gateway manufacturer INSYS icom offer a practical possibility to merge IT and OT.
UVexplorer integrates tightly with PRTG to bring fast and accurate network discovery, detailed device inventory, and automatic network mapping to the PRTG platform.
Combining their tools to a powerful solution for advanced analysis and automation, KnowledgeRiver and Paessler enable IT teams to ensure best performance for their infrastructure and networks.

Choosing between Paessler PRTG and LibreNMS depends on several factors, such as your specific network monitoring needs, budget, and technical resources available in your organization.
PRTG is ideal:
LibreNMS might be your choice:
PRTG, no contest, for one simple reason: despite being highly configurable, it's designed to be plug and play. Key in an IP address range, and PRTG’s auto-discovery tool will detect every network device, assign the right sensors, and start monitoring straight away.
Of course, more complex setups like distributed networks and network devices that run on non-Windows operating systems will require some tweaking. But we're confident this is a quick and intuitive process. And, if you run into issues, our friendly (and human) support team is always on hand to help. Even if you're on a free plan.
LibreNMS, on the other hand, requires manual installation, dependency management, configuration file editing, and Linux server admin, which means you'll need time to spare and the technical expertise to pull it off.
PRTG and LibreNMS can both work well in an enterprise setting and for similar use cases, with an important caveat.
PRTG is a purpose-built enterprise network monitoring solution, so it can handle large-scale, distributed, and complex infrastructures out of the box with minimal tweaking. It has 250+ preconfigured sensors, including specialised sensors for monitoring routers, firewalls, and other hardware, software like Azure, as well as VMWare and other virtualized components. And, it has native web-based and mobile interfaces and expert support you can turn to if you run into issues.
LibreNMS can similarly handle complex setups, but the learning curve and technical overhead are significant. You need to set it up correctly, which might be easier said than done. You'll also need to monitor and fine-tune the system regularly. And the unavailability of paid support means it might not meet your organisation's SLAs, especially if you operate in a regulated industry. How well it scales will also depend on your ability to properly architect and maintain your distributed setup.
LibreNMS is completely free and open source. That might make it look more cost-effective on paper. But the trade-off is that, while it's extensively documented and has a thriving Discord community you can lean on, there's no formal support — not great if you get stuck and this impacts your network's performance.
PRTG uses sensor-based pricing. The first 100 sensors are free, for life, and include all the same features as our paid plans, which means you can get started at no cost. Paid plans are charged per number of sensors, which means you pay for the metrics you want to monitor, not per usage or in order to access specific features.
In PRTG, “sensors” are the basic monitoring elements. One sensor usually monitors one measured value in your network, for example the traffic of a switch port, the CPU load of a server, or the free space on a disk drive. On average, you need about 5-10 sensors per device or one sensor per switch port.
Paessler conducted trials in over 600 IT departments worldwide to tune its network monitoring software closer to the needs of sysadmins. The result of the survey: over 95% of the participants would recommend PRTG – or already have.
