Uptrends specializes in website, uptime, and API monitoring. Which means that, if these are your priority, for example because you're a website or app developer, Uptrends is hard to beat.
PRTG can also monitor websites, uptime, and APIs, but its capabilities extend much further — to hardware devices, software like firewalls and VoIP, and even environmental humidity and temperature. This makes it ideal if you're looking for an all-in-one monitoring solution that enables you to keep an eye on your entire IT infrastructure from one place.

PRTG uses sensor-based pricing, so you pay for the metrics you want to monitor, not for specific features or functionality. All PRTG's features and functionalities are included in the base price, you pay the same regardless of whether you deploy PRTG on-premises, in the cloud, or use a hybrid setup. You also get free lifetime access to 100 sensors, with all monitoring features included.
Uptrends, on the other hand, uses per credit pricing. Each variable you monitor consumes a certain number of credits, and so does the monitoring configuration. This can make your costs more complicated to work out and harder to predict.
In PRTG, “sensors” are the basic monitoring elements. One sensor usually monitors one measured value in your network, for example the traffic of a switch port, the CPU load of a server, or the free space on a disk drive. On average, you need about 5-10 sensors per device or one sensor per switch port.
