Custom alerts and data visualization let you quickly identify and prevent all kinds of network issues.
Stronger security. Prompt troubleshooting. Optimization and capacity planning. Ensuring third-party vendors are hitting their SLAs.
Monitoring your network is important for many reasons. But you probably know that already.
What you might be unsure about is: how much monitoring is enough? Is it OK to track just topline stats like bandwidth and latency? Or should you go deeper?
With Paessler PRTG, you can experiment until you find out what works for you. 250+ preconfigured sensors plus the ability to create your own enable you to monitor every metric and variable you can think of (and even those you haven’t thought about yet).
And our transparent, sensor-based pricing means you can always work out exactly how much you’ll pay. No unpleasant surprises (or phone calls from accounts) at the end of the billing cycle.
PRTG gives you a complete picture of every hardware and software device’s performance without feeling like a rabbit hole, or turning monitoring and network management into somebody’s full-time job.

Monitor every metric imaginable, without drowning in data. PRTG puts you in complete control of what you monitor. At the same time powerful automations, extensive customization, and agentless deployment keep things user-friendly and accessible for everyone on your team.
Get up and running in minutes, with minimal effort. Auto-Discovery identifies every device within a given IP address range, assigns the appropriate sensors, and starts monitoring. Once that’s done, pick your preferred performance thresholds, and PRTG will work in the background, letting you know the second something doesn’t look quite right.
Perfect for small, local networks, or complex distributed environments. Start monitoring for free and add more sensors as you grow. You can also deploy PRTG on-premises, in the cloud, or in a hybrid environment. Whatever your monitoring needs are, PRTG has you covered, from a single pane of glass.
While you can only install a core server or probe on Windows, remote probes can run on Linux, ARM (including Raspberry Pi), and even some NAS devices. Our SSH and SNMP sensors work with CentOS, openSUSE, Ubuntu, Debian, macOS, Fedora, Gentoo, Red Hat Enterprise, and OpenSolaris, and we have native sensors for major vendors like Cisco and IBM.
Access PRTG’s complete suite of capabilities… even on the free tier — from custom dashboards and automations to unified IT and OT monitoring via Modbus and other specialized protocols. PRTG’s sensor-based pricing means you pay for the metrics you want to monitor, never to use advanced features.

We also compared PRTG with other monitoring tools:
ThousandEyes specializes in digital experience monitoring but requires significant resources and expertise to manage. PRTG delivers comprehensive network monitoring with intuitive setup, transparent pricing, and unified infrastructure observability.
Centreon is highly customizable but complex to configure. PRTG offers powerful monitoring, an intuitive interface, easy setup, and transparent sensor-based pricing that’s budget-friendly.
Graylog requires complex setup with steep learning curves and has limited monitoring capabilities. PRTG delivers comprehensive infrastructure monitoring with intuitive interfaces and transparent pricing.
Pingdom is the go-to tool for web performance monitoring. But what it has in synthetic monitoring and real user monitoring functionality, it lacks in other areas. For a golden source of truth that covers every aspect of your network's health and performance, PRTG is the better choice.
Real-time notifications mean faster troubleshooting so that you can act before more serious issues occur.

Choosing between Paessler PRTG and NetCrunch depends on several factors, such as your specific network monitoring needs, budget, and technical resources available in your organization.
PRTG is ideal:
NetCrunch might be your choice:
NetCrunch has robust monitoring policy automation and alerting logic. But, for tailoring your monitoring environment to your exact requirements, PRTG wins hands down. This is because PRTG enables you to:
● Create custom monitoring sensors using PowerShell, Python, or a REST API, which means you can monitor anything
● Design granular, widget-driven dashboards, graphs, status maps, toplists, and visualizations as well as custom reports
● Set custom alerting thresholds, including via custom scripts
Both tools are highly scalable, but NetCrunch is better at horizontal scaling, while PRTG excels at vertical scaling.
NetCrunch's node-based model is specifically designed to handle environments with complex topologies, with tens of thousands of devices connected locally and remotely. The trade-off is that you sacrifice volume for depth. The more granularity you need, the more unwieldy and expensive it becomes.
PRTG, on the other hand, works better for scaling depth of monitoring. Our sensor-based model makes it easy and cost-effective to continually increase the number of metrics and variables you monitor for each device.
NetCrunch charges by the node or interface. It defines a node as a hardware device, virtual machine, cloud service, or other monitored endpoint, and an interface as a network port on a monitored SNMP device. This kind of pricing model is very cost-effective if you have a hugely complex and device-heavy environment. The catch is that many advanced features aren't included and require add-ons. It can also get eye-wateringly expensive if you want to go beyond basic metrics. That is, you need in-depth, granular visibility into several metrics per device.
PRTG's sensor-based pricing means you pay per metric, rather than per device. This works out cheaper if you want to monitor several metrics on a single device, and we never charge you to access advanced functionality — all features are included on every tier. The first 100 sensors are free, forever, so you can get started at no cost.
In PRTG, “sensors” are the basic monitoring elements. One sensor usually monitors one measured value in your network, for example the traffic of a switch port, the CPU load of a server, or the free space on a disk drive. On average, you need about 5-10 sensors per device or one sensor per switch port.
Paessler conducted trials in over 600 IT departments worldwide to tune its network monitoring software closer to the needs of sysadmins. The result of the survey: over 95% of the participants would recommend PRTG – or already have.
