PRTG Manual
New User Interface
The new PRTG user interface (UI) is a redesign of the classic PRTG web interface. It uses the PRTG API v2 and introduces a new navigational layout.
The new UI is still under development and is not yet feature-complete. You might come across features and settings that are exclusively available in either the classic UI or the new UI. For more information on the latest updates to the new UI, see the Paessler website: Release notes for the "stable" release channel in the section New UI.
The new UI and API v2 use an additional service, which can increase the resource footprint PRTG needs to run. You do not need to take any extra precautionary steps if your installation follows the system requirements for PRTG. If your installation is already running considerably outside of these recommendations, we suggest that you take a cautious approach to activating the new UI and API v2.
Some versions of PRTG require that you activate the new UI and API v2 from the classic UI. The PRTG core server must restart to apply the changes.
- Go to Setup.
- The prompt to activate the new UI appears in the rightmost column. Select Activate.
- Enable the checkbox to confirm that you have read the disclaimer.
- Select OK to restart the PRTG core server and activate the new UI and API v2.
After the PRTG core server restarts, there is a button in the upper right corner of the PRTG web interface that you can use to switch between the classic and new UI.
Additional notes
- After activation, the classic UI, new UI, PRTG API, and PRTG API v2 are available simultaneously. If the network and firewall rules allow it, users can access them via different ports.
- To use the new UI, the following ports must be free:
- 1616 (HTTPS) or 1615 (HTTP)
- 23580 (HTTP and HTTPS)
You can manually deactivate the PRTG application server from Setup. If you deactivate the PRTG application server, you cannot access the new UI or use the PRTG API v2. Alternatively, you can deactivate or temporarily pause the PRTG application server service from the PRTG Administration Tool.
If you change this setting, PRTG needs to restart the PRTG core server to apply your changes. After you click Save, a dialog box appears that asks you to confirm the restart. Click OK to trigger the restart. During the restart, all users of the PRTG web interface, PRTG MultiBoard, or the PRTG Apps for Mobile Network Monitoring are disconnected and reconnected.
You see the Home page by default when you log in to the PRTG web interface. The Home page shows an overview of your PRTG instance and provides shortcuts and resources if you need help.
The PRTG API v2 is the modern Representational State Transfer (REST) application programming interface (API) of PRTG. It enables you to access monitoring data, manipulate objects using HTTP requests, and run your own written sensors and notifications.
You can find the main resources for the API v2 in the PRTG interface or on the Paessler website.
